Wine Investment
Wine is of course made to be drunk and enjoyed, ideally shared and wherever possible alongside great food. However, it is undeniable that wine has also historically performed well as an asset class.
When James started in the trade 1st growth Bordeaux was £100-200/bottle and even on a shop salary could afford to drink on occasion great Puligny from Domaine Leflaive, de Vogue, Salon Champagne and even occasionally DRC (Echezeaux). These were at prices we can only dream of paying today. The old saying buy two cases and drink for free still runs true, but many clients over the years have seen wines they fully intended to drink provide financial returns that have exceeded their traditional investments. It's also worth noting wine is classified as a ‘wasting asset’ and therefore is exempt from Capital Gains tax in the UK.
With over 20 years experience buying, valuing and trading the world's best wines, James is well placed to offer investment advice. If you wish to discuss further please get in touch using the details below.
